The development team from the nationally-recognized student housing firm CampusWorks has joined Aspen Heights Partners, one of the country’s leading student and multifamily development companies.

Bringing 38 years of experience and a robust development project pipeline, the development team with CampusWorks has joined Aspen Heights to oversee new projects through the eastern U.S. The team will remain based in Charlotte, N.C., where its current headquarters are located. The new Aspen Heights location denotes the first office outside of its corporate headquarters in Austin, Texas.

CampusWorks Founder and CEO David Helfrich has been named president of the new Aspen Heights East Coast division. Vice President of Development Dan Koebel, Vice President of Land Acquisition Steve Helfrich and Development Analyst Chris Foley all also joined.

“David and his team have extensive experience in areas of the country where we expect to see a lot of continued investment and development activity in the coming years,” said Aspen Heights CEO Greg Henry. “We’re confident that they will be tremendous assets to Aspen Heights as we continue to expand our footprint and grow our business.”

CampusWorks has developed more than 7,500 beds primarily in the Southeast region since it was founded in 1999. The development team has numerous projects totaling more than 5,000 beds in various stages of development all along the East Coast as well as in the Southeast and Midwest regions.

“We’re excited to become part of a great team and a great company,” David Helfrich said. “Aspen Heights’ reputation, size and vertical integration coupled with our experience, market knowledge and relationships will allow us to quickly grow an east coast division of Aspen Heights. It’s a great fit for both companies.”

Founded in 2006, Austin-based Aspen Heights has developed 36 conventional multifamily, student housing, and assisted living properties, totaling more than $1.5 billion in value. The company builds, leases and manages its own projects and also provides third-party leasing and management services. It is a mainstay in the top 10 lists of student housing development companies. The firm’s best-known project is arguably The Independent, a 685-foot-tall, 363-unit condo tower that’s both the tallest residential tower west of the Mississippi River as well as the tallest structure in Austin.
